This photo was taken on the North Carolina/ Virginia border on a sunny day in early March. The storm cloud effect was produced in the darkroom by solarizing only the sky while the developer was still on the paper. It produced a very dramatic effect and, though it can never be reproduced exactly the same in a darkroom, the original image has been scanned and copies can be made from that. This photo is the oldest in my collection, taken almost ten years ago, but it still remains my favorite. Below is a letter my husband wrote to me about this photograph and I submit it to you because it so perfectly places into words what I wish to say with my art.

"Your train track photo reminds me of the open road, of the future, of the past... a much older world I often try to imagine. I can almost feel myself standing there on those iron rails, sliding my naked feet along the warm steel... turned brown from time and the elements... standing there, somewhere on that horizon, in the present... I pivot on the moment, able to see all that has gone before, projecting into the oblivion of thin air, weightless of time... breaking thru the dark storm rising into the light beyond, the perfect exit, the feeling of the wind rushing wild thru my arms... feeling as if I had wings, like Icarus, that might rush me to the fold of the sun. Your photos reach that level of beauty, capturing things that I've missed trying to move too fast from one moment to another, or creating a new world... sacred with new magic... a religion of discovery." -Buck Curran
