Shanti Curran has a core philosophy of "capturing ordinary moments and bringing forth the underlying mystery and beauty of life." Shanti, who was born in Maine but raised in Virginia, relocated to Maine in 2001 to explore her homeland. She is presently living in Lewiston, finding it a place rich with artistic possibilities. Recently completed projects include: a series of photographs of the Lewiston area; several contracts to produce calendars for private clients; a collection of photographs of Maine's coastal and inland mountain regions; and portrait sessions of children, pets and performing musicians. Other past accomplishments include showings at Acoustic Coffee Gallery in Portland and at Central Maine Medical Center's Rotating Gallery in Lewiston. Her work has also appeared in such publications as the Portland Phoenix, the Lewiston Sun Journal and the Dog and Handler magazine. She has produced website photos for Rigel Mandolin Company in Vermont, Curran Guitars, and CD cover art for musicians such as the Jan Mayes Band, American Poet, and the upcoming album cover for Rough Ride of Crafts. Shanti's current interest is in photographing the mills of the Androscoggin River, the timeworn traces of Lewiston-Auburn's industrial era. Shanti also pursues music as a second interest, and records in collaboration with her husband (Buck Curran), and other Maine musicians.
